Department of Applied Psychology

Introduction:

A degree in Applied Psychology is a skill-based learning which complements all other areas of study. It helps to promote well-being and mental health by developing insight into mental processes. It assists to understand self in a better way, intra and inter-personal relationships, to develop critical thinking and improve leadership skills. Moreover, it will help to understand the beneficial strategies of health psychology as well as to enhance decision making by comprehending what is emotional intelligence, and learn methods for improving memory. Students learn about counselling/clinical skills, cognitive and emotional development by experimentation, research projects, SPSS and internship programs. Individual and group counselling facilities are provided by the department of Applied Psychology.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To enable the students to acquire the knowledge of main areas of psychology including developmental, social, biological, cognitive and historical perspectives.
  2. To help and enable students in successful pursuit of their careers in psychology and related disciplines.
  3. To develop love for learning, unlock the intellectual and personal potential of each student and act as a Launchpad for advanced studies.
  4. To make students skilled enough to write research papers.
  5. To create ethical awareness, the students are guided about the rights and needs of the clients from every background.

Career Opportunities:

Psychology is an extraordinarily diverse field with hundreds of career paths. Some specialties, like caring for people with mental and emotional disorders are familiar to most of us. Others career opportunities are mental health practitioner as educational psychologist, forensic psychologist, health psychologist, community psychologists, developmental psychologists, environmental psychologists, occupational psychologist, sport and exercise psychologist.

Minor Subjects:

Social Work, International Relations and Geography are currently offered as minors subjects.
