Department of Home Economics

Introduction:

Home Economics is a diversified discipline based on skill centric learning with hands on experience in five major disciplines including:
1. Food and Nutrition,
2. Textile and Clothing,
3. Human Development,
4. Art and Design, Housing,
5. Home Management and Interior Design.
Our Department offers BS. Home Economics, Intermediate Home Economics and outlines of Home Economics in all core, major and compulsory courses related to five areas of specialization. This program will help the students to manage personal, family and community resources for better living. The students can take on different professions like specialized teaching skills, Dietitian, Interior Designer, Early Childhood Educator, Speech therapist, textile and fashion designing, community services and social work. Highly qualified and expert faculty is there to teach students with cutting- edge curriculum tailored to industry needs.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. The comprehensive and intensive curriculum will help the students:

    • To manage personal, family and community resources for better living and improve their decision-making skills.
    • To demonstrate knowledge in developing strategies to involve families and communities in young children’s development and learning.
    • Develop intra-personal knowledge and interpersonal skills to contribute to building a society responsive to multi­ cultural and global concerns.
    • To be exposed to the latest knowledge and technology to familiarize them with the advancement in the industrial sector and in other areas of development.
    • To empower students to start professional life.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidate holding F.A/F. Sc/ A Level/ Equivalent qualification with at least 50% marks.
  • Students having Home Economics subject in FA will be given 2 additional marks.
  • Candidate should have good communication skill, in English, as all theory subjects will be taught in English only.

Employability:

There are a lot of choices for students which include Food Service Administrators and Entrepreneurs. Food and Beverage Managers and Community Nutritionists. They can be Academicians and Child life specialists, Special Education professionals, Parent Educators, Early childhood Education consultants, Artists, Craft Experts such as Creative Weavers and Ceramic Artists etc.
