Statistics is a multidisciplinary subject and has wide application in almost all physical and social sciences. The importance of subject is growing rapidly with the emergence of data science and data analytics. The subject of statistics has a pivotal role for data analysis, drawing inferences, making predictions in all fields of study as it provides meaningful insight and quantitative reasoning from the data.

Statistics was introduced at Government Graduate College for Women, Gulberg, Lahore in 1986 at both intermediate and under graduate level and has remained a popular choice of the students since then.  With the start of BS programs in various subjects in 2010, statistics is being taught as a minor and compulsory course in almost all disciplines. Currently department is comprised of highly motivated and competent faculty of five members headed by Dr. Mahnaz Makhdum.
