Government Graduate College for Women, Gulberg Lahore is one of the most prestigious institutions of Lahore with an enrollment of about more than 5000 students. The glorious academic values of this institution have been carved by its academic history which spreads over a span of more than fifty years. It was established in 1967, in small rented premises near Hussain chowk, Liberty Market as an Intermediate College for Girls with the strength of only 35 students. After a long struggle, 63 kanal 3 marla land was purchased from Lahore Development Authority in 1977. The college was upgraded to Degree Level in 1983 and was affiliated with the Punjab University in1986. At that time there were only a few subjects at Intermediate and Graduate level. But later on some more subjects were added. In 1986, the college started offering B.Sc. classes. The subject of English Literature was offered in 1989. At present Govt. Graduate College for Women, Gulberg is offering 24 subjects in Intermediate including Journalism and social work. The institution has gone a long way to claim its outstanding position of performance among the institutions of academic excellence.

The year 2010 was a turning point in the history of the institution because it had been selected by Higher Education Commission to launch the B.S. (FYDP) program in eleven disciplines. This program is supported by HED of the Punjab. We feel honored and fortunate for the confidence reposed in us by Higher Education Commission. In the wake of a hard competition in the field of education, we realize the need for adopting a professional approach. Therefore, in the year 2019 BS (FYDP) in Urdu Literature was started on the motivation and struggle of Dr. Nighat Naheed Zafar, then Head of Department and now the Principal of GGCW. This college has the honour of having one post-doctorate, 27 Ph.D and 54 M.Phil. degree holders in various departments. Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg Lahore is situated in the commercial and industrial hub of the city. On the demand of the local community to start market based academic programs, the college administration proudly announces to have started new four-year degree programs (morning) in the subjects of Political Science, Textile and Design, Biotechnology and in the evening (Self-Support) programs of B.Ed. (1.5 year), Chemistry and Computer Science (FYDP). This is a milestone in the history of public sector colleges. We are now looking forward to starting another BS program in International Relations for which we have already acquired the NOC from HED and now waiting for approval from LCWU.

Here, we claim that our institution has a futuristic vision and determines to meet the challenges of 21st century. We provide a friendly academic environment and ensure quality education. We have lab facilities for our science and IT students. The students in order to hone their confidence, creative or technical skills and work capacity can join any of a variety of students’ societies in college, related to science, sports, debates, literature, art, drama, music and skills development. Our students are known for their innovative potential irrespective of their backgrounds. They take part in various academic and co-curricular competitions and win awards and prizes at district, provincial and national levels. The college regularly conducts research seminars, workshops, training and counselling sessions to develop independent thinking, self-confidence, personal grooming and communication skills in the students.

All administrative decisions are taken by the consent of college council that yields beneficial results to boost the image of college. We proudly announce that our students won accolades in board and university exams. In the year  2022-23 our students of BS grabbed gold and silver medals as well as roll of honor in various disciplines.
