The College

Government Graduate College for Women, Gulberg, Lahore, is one of the city’s most prestigious institutions, with an enrollment exceeding 5,000 students. Established in 1967 in a rented building near Hussain Chowk, Liberty Market, it began as an Intermediate College for Girls with just 35 students. Over time, the college acquired 63 Kanal 3 Marla land from the Lahore Development Authority and was upgraded to Degree Level in 1983, affiliating with Punjab University in 1986. Initially offering limited subjects, the college expanded its programs, introducing B.Sc. classes in 2010 and 24 subjects at the Intermediate level, including FA Home Economics and FA IT.

A major milestone came in 2010 when the Higher Education Commission selected the college to launch BS (FYDP) programs in 11 disciplines, supported by the Punjab Higher Education Department. In 2019, a BS Urdu Literature program was introduced under the leadership of Dr. Nighat Naheed Zafar, now the college principal. The college boasts a highly qualified faculty, including one post-doctorate, 27 Ph.D., and 54 M.Phil. holders.

Located in Lahore’s commercial and industrial hub, the college offers market-driven programs, including BS (FYDP) in Political Science, Textile and Design, Biotechnology, and self-support programs in B.Ed. (1.5 years), Chemistry, and Computer Science. Facilities include science and IT labs, an E-library, and various student societies for co-curricular activities in science, arts, sports, literature, and skills development.

The college has earned recognition for its academic and co-curricular achievements, with students excelling at district, provincial, and national levels. It has hosted international conferences, research seminars, workshops, and career counseling sessions to foster critical thinking, confidence, and personal development.
